By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.Post a Hjt log - to see what is running on your system. If anyone can tell me what i can do to make it go back to its previous performance but with Avast! or any other free antivirus software,maybe I'm doing something ease advise! so i must assume it has something to do with Avast! free anti virus. Overall it seems to me like it gone from bad to worst since i changed to antivirus on my laptop,I am aware of the fact this is an old laptop and not with capabilities of stronger pcs but still it was working much better before with Symantec. Perhaps the disabling of some unneeded OS processes (such as Start Screen Live Tiles) may reduce your lag.Hello,im using windows xp sp3 on my laptop (Lenovo T60 1.66ghz 960mgz 2g of ram) and ever since i uninstalled Symantec corporate edition (this was a company laptop) from it due to many security issues (Symantec was malfunctioning too often and male wares and viruses were very common in my laptop) and installed Avast!free antivirus my laptop is SO SLOW! windows explorer is taking longer and longer to move from folder to folder or to open a simple text file (not to mention video files) and the internet is also got very slow,not able to open too many tabs at once (not to mention 2 browsers at the same time.) - i use Firefox and Chrome. I assume that AVs that use staggered updates can trump "unneeded" "Non OS processes" in order to make sure that the updates are installed ASAP.and I am hypothesising that AVs that use "trickle streaming" could find themselves in competition with unneeded "OS processes" resulting in lag. Many other AVs pipe staggered updates at semi-regular intervals whereas Avast definition updates are trickled almost constantly. Is the fact that Avast "Trickle Streams" its Updates a Factor Here? This is just a guess and may be both irrelevant and/or incorrect.
